I stumbled upon the UK's Litmus at this year's Roadburn edition, and was quite entertained by their 70's worshipping progrock in the vein of Hawkwind and early Pink Floyd. Rise Above are now taking pre-orders for their newest album entitled "Aurora".
Here's what the label has to say: "The overriding atmosphere that ‘Aurora’ summons up is warmer and more utopian one than the more foreboding realm of their 2007 Rise Above debut ‘Planetfall’, a landscape where glorious cascades of mellotron collide with kaleidoscopic synthesizer textures, all atop a bedrock of driving riffage that owes as much to the gritty edge of The Who or the motorik drive of Neu! as if does to ‘Warrior On The Edge Of Time‘-era Hawkwind. What’s more, whilst there are no shortages to be had of the full-throttle, longform jamming wig-outs that have become Litmus’ trademark, the vistas that ’Aurora’ brings forth also encompass kosmische instrumental passages like the gloriously blissed-out ‘Eos’, the Voviod-meets-Robert Calvert sci-fi-punk avalanche of ‘Stars’ and arguably the album’s centrepiece, the Spiritualized-tinged mantric dronerock nirvana of ‘Kings Of Infinite Space’."
This "Die Hard" 2xLP edition is limited to 300 copies and comes on etched Purple vinyl with A2 poster and embroidered patch. Available for GBP20 at Rise Above Records . Not too impressed with the layout though, so let's hope the music is worth it. And oh yeah, while you're over there, be free to get colored 10" of the last MOSS record called "Tombs of the Blind Drugged"
