Akron/Family - River 7"

Dead Oceans are taking pre-orders for a new 7" by one of the most groundbreaking acts out there: Akron/Family. This new single is called "River", and you'll never know what track it has on it?! So, besides this song that was already featured on their most recent album and that has nothing to do with Bruce Sprinsteen, there is also some new, thus more interesting work. The B-side has the wonderfully named "Morning on Michigan Avenue (Thinking of Old Friends)" song on it, which none of us has ever heard before! Hooray!

This 7" is limited, but Dead Oceans aren't giving pressing information. In my book, everything that is manufactured on scale is limited to some extent, so yeah. But who cares, this is Akron/Family we're talking about, so use today's lunchmoney to pre-order the "River" 7" from Dead Oceans.

Cant / Arthur Russell - Number One split 7"

Grizzly Bear = Chris Taylor = Cant. Nuff said. Released this tuesday is the "Number One" split 7" by Cant and Arhur Russel. Cant is side-project of Grizzly Bear, on the Taylor's own record label Terrible Records, and sounds pretty much like a lo-fi, even dreamier version of Grizzly Bear. You can check out the track 'Ghosts' over at Stereogum if you're curious. On the B-side comes a long lost posthumous folk track by Arthur Russell. ‘Come To Life’....‘Come To Life’was recorded by Russell in the late 70s, and should have but didn't appear on last year’s Rough Trade compilation "Love Is Overtaking Me". So, here we have it, on a split 7" limited to 1000 copies. Get yours from Terrible Records today.

Brightblack Morning Light / Lungfish -Split 7"

Last post of the day, but one I'm nonethless pretty excited about. I stumbled upon this little gem by accident, and the reason why I'm so excited is that this is the first time I've seen a new Lungfish release in years. Oh wait, dammit, it's a track from their last studio-album "Feral Hymns" on Dischord. Dam Mit.

The Brightblack Morning Light better be new then? Well, it's a live recording from a live performance in 2008 from their "Another Reclaimation" song. Not too big on live recordings either. Dam Mit.

But! This is an Anti-War release. The 7" is limited to 500 copies. It comes on red/clear vinyl. And both bands are great, so it's nice to see them share some vinyl, so order yours from Harvest Records

Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - Stay 7"

Bonnie 'Prince' Billy doesn't rest. I'm guessing like Samson the power is in his beard. On this new 7" called "Stay" Will Oldham is documenting two covers of songs by Susanna K. Wallumrød, "Stay" and "People Living". Bonnie 'Prince' Billy already contributed vocals to Susanna's sophomore album "Flower Of Evil", which strangely enough only had cover songs on it. But Oldham is covering 2 original songs by her, so this ought to be good otherwise he wouldn't bother I guess.

Pre-order the "Stay" 7" from Drag City and while you're at it, you might as well also order the new Espers LP, called "III". I'm not too fond of Espers myself, but it might save you some shipping costs, and don't forget to get Om's "God Is Good" over there if you haven't ordered yours yet. No, I don't take money from Drag City, they're just having a good year.

Bark Haze / Our Love Will Destroy the World - Split 7"

Krayon Records have 2 amazing split 7"s available. I'm most excited about the Bark Haze / Our Love Will Destroy the World split, but also definitely worth mentioning is the Infinite Light / Vibracathedral Orchestra split - who would've thunk the Vibracethedral Orchestra were still around? Anyway, back on topic, here's a split 7" between Bark Haze and Our Love Will Destroy The World.

Bark Haze is an improv collaboration project between Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth and Andrew MacGregor of Gown. Our Love Will Destroy the World is a band by another multitasker called Campbell Kneale, who most of us know from Birchville Cat Motel and Black Boned Angel! The artwork for this split 7" was made by Campbell Kneale and Kim Gordon by the way!

Not exactly specified, but both these 7"s reek of "limited", so get your order in from Krayon Recordings as soon as you can.

Magnolia Electric Co. - Rider, Shadow, Wolf b/w Josephine 7"

Just on time for their forthcoming European tour, Magnolia Electric Co. are releasing a brandnew 7" tomorrow, which sees the the band bring "a surf-rock dynamic to its signature punch. This is where the tired rider, just having battled the desert, meets the eternity of an ocean." on opener "Rider, Shadow, Wolf". On the B-sides comes "Josephine" which was also recently on their latest album, but this stripped down version was recorded during sessions for the collaborative album from Molina and Will Johnson of Centro-matic.

Holy Roar Records are taking pre-orders for the upcoming Pulled Apart By Horses / Holy State split 7" due October 5th. Boris - Japanese Heavy Rock Hits 7"series update

As reported yesterday, Boris are gearing up to release a new 7", apparently not called "8", but "Japanese Heavy Rock Hits Vol. 1" which turns out to be only the first installment in a series of 7" releases. Here's what the Lord has to say:

"For over 15 years Boris has lead the charge as Japan’s most exciting experimental rock act. This fall marks yet another first for the band as they release Japanese Heavy Rock Hits, a series of 7″s showcasing their wide-reaching, genre-smashing sound. The band has been locked in the studio over last few months and in association with Southern Lord they are ready to bring to you their latest offerings. Over the course of the next 3 months 3 brand new exclusive vinyl 7″s will be released.

September - Japanese Heavy Rock Hits Vol. 1
Side A: “8″
Side B :” Hey Everyone/ねえエヴリワン”

October - Japanese Heavy Rock Hits Vol. 2
Side A: “H.M.A. - Heavy Metal Addict”
Side B: “Black Original/黒い点滅”

November - Japanese Heavy Rock Hits Vol. 3

Boris - 8 7"

I heard some rumours about a new upcoming 7" by Boris on Southern Lord, but no official information has been released yet, let alone a preview of the artwork. However, Norman Records have the details, and already have the "8" 7" up for pre-order. Here's the info:

"For over 15 years Boris has lead the charge as Japan's most exciting experimental rock act. Considering their peers and countrymen this is no easy feat. Even stacked up against a lot of their Southern Lord brethren (a roster including some of the hardest-working, forward-thinking artists in music) Boris always stands out as some of the biggest risk-takers, with a voluminous catalogue to back up that reputation.

This fall marks yet another first for the band as they release Japanese Heavy Rock Hits, a series of 7 inches showcasing their wide-reaching, genre-smashing sound.Volume One titled 8, features two newly recorded EXCLUSIVE tracks.

On Side A, the title track "8" continues the spacey hard-rock sound established on their classic albums Pink and Smile, building from a mono, lo-fi wall of feedback into a ripping, slab of lush vocals, crunchy guitar and thunderous drums.Things get switched up on Side B with "Hey Everyone", a chewy bit of power-pop bubblegum that sees the band mining a much lighter source for their s$most daring thing this band can do is record something so straight-forwardit could easily be misconstrued as "alt-pop".

This all-new 7 inch, along with the rest of the Japanese Heavy Rock Hits series are gonna be must-have's for all fans of Boris, Southern Lord and all things heavy."

Pre-order it from Norman Records

Fever Ray - Limited Tour 7"

Fever Ray is working on a new 7" dubbed "Seven", but in the meantime a limited edition tour 7" has just come available on the band's webstore, so this might be a nice little goodie if you care about Fever Ray / The Knife. My friends are heading to Denmark to watch a The Knife opera, I don't even want to know what that's all about, but Fever Ray can do little wrong.

Anyway, this 7" basically features covers which she usually plays live, performed together with Van Rivers and The Subliminal Kid. The 2 covers are "Stranger than Kindness" by Nick Cave and Anita Lane and "Here Before" by Vashti Bunyan. The 7" is limited edition and numbered, so better get it fast from Fever Ray

Grizzly Bear - While You Wait for the Others 7"

"While You Wait for the Others" is a new EP by Grizzly Bear, featuring 2 tracks named "While You Wait for the Others" and "While You Wait for the Others". Seriously? Yeah, seriously, but it's not just the same track twice, as the B-side version features Michael McDonald of the late Doobie Brothers.
The pre-order was supposed to come out 3 days ago, so I'm not sure if it's already sold out or that we'll just have to wait a bit more to get the 7" version, because it's definitely available on iTunes already. So, check the Grizzly Bear site regularly.

AIDS Wolf - Dustin' Off The Sphynx 7"

AIDS Wolf, the Montreal noise outfit are back with a new EP called "Dustin' Off the Sphynx". These guys (and girl) make excellent noise-rock, definitely recommended if you're into the likes of Lightning Bolt, The Chinese Stars, An Albatross or one might even hear slight traces of Liars in there. So, this new 7" not only includes 4 new songs, but also comes with a download code to the 7 additional bonus tracks from the out-of-print "Pas Rapport" tour-only cassette. The Colored vinyl 7" EP comes in a screenprinted gatefold sleeve and will most likely blow your mind.

Dustin' Off The Sphynx" comes at a whopping $18,99 from Skin Graft Records directly, but it seems like they're only offering it as a bundle with the CD. The cheapeast version I found out there is over at Interpunk; for only $10,25.

Vaccine - Demo 7"

First released on tape which sold out in no-time, Clean Plate and Red Room Records are now taking pre-orders for the vinyl version of this demo. This is a one time pressing only, all songs come on the A-side, making room for a nifty screening on the B-side. Limited to 300 copies, 100 on clear, 200 on black.

Not excited yet? Vaccine are one of the new names in hardcore that are taking the scene by storm. They're fast and loud, their songs last about 30 seconds, they have a take no prisoners approach, and oh yeah, you might have heard of their previous bands such as Orchid! Bucket Full Of Teeth! Think I Care!

That's right. Order it from Clean Plate

Failures - s/t 7"

Painkiller released this 7" last week, but as far as my eye can see still has some of the 229 white/gray colored editions, if not, don't be dumb and just get one of the 810 black vinyl copies. Failures released their first record last year on Clean Plate/Youth Attack. Who the hell are Failures? Well: Mark McCoy (Charles Bronson, Holy Molar, Das Oath), Andrew Jackmauh (Cut The Shit, Bones Brigade), Will Killingsworth (Orchid, Ampere, Bucket Full of Teeth), Matt Wilga (Bucket Full of Teeth, Cancer Kids). Need I say more? Order now from Painkiller Records
