Port O'Brien's new album "Threadbare" is besides the new Dodos album, definitely the most eagerly anticipated new album for my girl, and how right she is. Apparently, this follow-up to their amazing "All We Could Do Was Sing" record will be more introspective and cathartic, as it's inspired by the death of founding member Goodwin's younger brother.
For those of you unfamiliar with Port O'Brien, these guys create intense indierock, with anthemic chorusses and bittersweet lyrics, definitely recommended for fans of Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire or even Fleet Foxes (yeah, they grow their beards as well). My girlfriend discovered this band only a few months ago, and we've both become devoted fans, suffice to say we were extremely pissed to not only miss them on their recent passing through Belgium a few weeks ago, let alone that they have a Two Gallants member in their touring line-up. Dammit.
So, here's hoping that they'll tour Europe again soon, and in the meantime, I'm not sitting on this and getting the pre-order of "Threadbare" from Insound, even more so because it comes with a free 7" on top of the regular record. Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!
