Neil Young - LP Reissue Boxset

$149.98 is what they're charging for the deluxe reissue boxset of Neil Young's first 4 albums. All records come with the original artwork, are pressed onto 180g and are numbered. The box includes the "Neil Young", "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere", "After The Gold Rush" and "Harvest" records. These LPs are actually quite easy to find, even if not in mint condition, so I'll just stick to my second hand copies that I bought for $1,99. For those of you who have the $150 to spare, get this box set which is limited to 3000 copies from Because Sound Matters

Brant Bjork - Jalamanta 2xLP

Back in 1999, Brant Bjork released his first solo album "Jalamanta". To celebrate the 10th anniversay, Low Desert Punk have re-pressed the record on vinyl. For those unfamiliar with Brant Bjork, this mister used to play in Fu Manchu and Kyuss, and has been going for a more mellow, laid-back kind of stoner in the more recent years.

For the re-issue which comes on heavyweight virgin 180g vinyl, the album has been totally remastered directly from the original tapes. Housed in a deluxe packaging with embossed cover and sporting an impressive 24 page book with lyrics, the "Jalamanta" 2xLP has a limited run of 1,000 pressing, first 500 signed and numbered by Brant. Order directly from Low Desert Punk.

Keelhaul - LP Reissues

Conspiracy Records are about to re-issue the first 3 Keelhaul albums just in time for their upcoming European Tour with Isis & Circle. If you read what I write over here, you know how much I adore Keelhaul, and in fact, for some strange reason I don't own their "Subject To Change Without Notice" album on vinyl, so now is the time!

The "bad" news is these re-issues are pressed on picture disc, so we'll have to wait and see/hear how good the audio quality will be, but I must admit, they look crazy. On the picture discs are pictures taken by Prutpuss for his alternative nude zine "Poupy Whoopy", and honestly, nipples and vinyl are always a golden combination. These LPs are limited to 300 copies each, and Conspiracy will only have 50 copies for sale directly, the rest of the LPs will be sold during their European tour, so wishlist from Conspiracy to reserve your copy - either seperately, or the 3xLP bundle.
I'll upload some better pictures once I have the LPs.

Nurse With Wound - Chance Meeting On A Dissecting Table Of A Sewing Machine And An Umbrella 2xLP

Now here's a mouthful. The re-issue of the "Chance Meeting On A Dissecting Table Of A Sewing Machine And An Umbrella" 2xLP by Nurse With Wound went online last week over at Dirter Records and it looks like this a real collector's treat. What we get here is the re-issue of their debut album from back in '79, and 30 years after its original release Nurse With Wound proves to still matter anno 2009. Like Dirter put it, this debut album is "the Sgt. Pepper of the avant garde" which seems quite fitting.

As for the vinyl? Well, this 2xLP comes in a beautiful gloss laminated sleeve, including printed inners with liner notes by Steven Stapleton. Plus there'a a bonus track on here called "Strain, Crack, Break" which comes for the first time on vinyl. To top things off, there's an etching on the D-side. I'd get it for the artwork alone. For only £20 UK, £25 Europe and £30 for the rest of the world, that's a pretty good deal over at Dirter.

Cremation - Black Death Cult LP

It's been a while. Busy busy. But that doesn't make the metal stop. So, up for order is the "Black Death Cult" LP by Cremation. This consists of long-gone demo material, containing the Demos “Pire Gah Hoath Raclir Od Lalpor” from 1993, “Hail The Rise of Med Pe Gal” from 1994 and “The Flames of An Elite Age” from 1995. The LP comes on heavy vinyl with reverseboard printed jacket, A2 poster, and insert. There's also a die hard version on gray vinyl with patch and sticker, as pictured above.

Cremation were an early death metal band, who over the years turned more and more black metal. They're mostly known because their drummer went on to other notorious acts such as Conqueror, Revenge, and Axis of Advance. Here's your chance to own some classic metal antiquity, so order now from Nuclear War Now!

Primus - Pork Soda 2xLP

2009 seems to be the year of the re-issues, and just when you thought there were no more classic albums to give a make-over, here comes the "Pork Soda" 2xLP by Primus. Thanks to South Park everybody sub/consciously knows Primus, but "Pork Soda" is what they're really about. A cross-over (haven't heard that term in years!) of funk, metal, rock, punk and god knows what else, delivered in a take-no-prisoners approach. This album is by far their best one, and features the amazing "My Name Is Mudd" track.

The "Pork Soda" gatefold 2xLP comes on 180g vinyl, available from Forced Exposure in the US and Music Fear Satan in Europe.

Serge Gainsbourg - Histoire De Melody Nelson LP

Everybody should own at least one Gainsbourg record. And "Histoire De Melody Nelson" is the quintessential piece in Gainsbourg's discography, so this is as good a place as any to get started. Light In The Attic are working on a deluxe re-issue of this classic album, which was a tribute to the "Lolita" novel and more directly to his muse and partner Jane Birkin.

"Histoire De Melody Nelson" comes on 180g vinyl in a gatefold jacket, plus inserts, an interview with Gainsbourg, etc. Definitely worth the £17,79 from Norman Records

The Feelies - Fa Ce-La / Raised Eyebrows 7"

Insound are taking pre-orders for The Feelies debut 7" called "Fa Ce-La", originally released in 1979 and to date exactly 30 years later will be available exclusively through Insound, who comment: "This 7” first came out Rough Trade in 1979. It’s probably the two “peppiest” of the band’s songs from Crazy Rhythms. "Fa Ce-La" is the second track from the album and flies by so fast that you can’t tell if its all one chorus or all one verse. It's insanely catchy and frantic. There isn’t much else like it in new wave or indie rock.

The B side – “Raised Eyebrows” – is the real gem. It’s the second to last song from Crazy Rhythms and sounds like what I imagine it to be for a surfer catching a big wave. It’s a little like the Talking Heads' “Thank You for Sending Me an Angel.” It starts out with an extended peak and then explodes into a quick refrain and then it's gone. It’s about as much fun as you can have while sounding like a nerd. So, maybe it’s like the music equivalent of kicking ass at an academic decathlon."

No specific pressing information has been made available, but considering the considerable fan following for The Feelies, as well as being one of the most sought after early kult rock 7"s, get yours from Insound while supplies last and don't whine about it when they're gone again.

Sigur Ros - Takk 2xLP + 10"

One Little Indian are about to rerelease the amazing “Takk” by Sigur Ros, their first major-album and to date still a fantastic epic trip into their world of fairies, volcanoes, geishers, naked people running in woods and who the hell knows what they're singing about! This new deluxe edition comes as a very limited vinyl edition, featuring double 12" 200g vinyl and a etched one-sided 10" housed in a specially dye-cut insert. The 10″ vinyl contains the etching on one side, with "milano" on the reverse side. This is due to become very sought after, so true collectors take note and pre-order it now for £27,83 from One Little Indian. Gobbledigook!

Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea & On Avery Island LP Reissues

Neutral Milk Hotel. Heralded by many as one of thé best and most influential indierock bands of all time. It took some time for me to believe it though. At the age of 18 their "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" album didn't make sense to me. We're a decade later now, and maybe it's my shrivelling braincells, my increasing beerbelly or my weakening love for grunts and blastbeats, but now it also ranks way up there in my favourite records ever list. So, Merge Records decided to reissue their two albums and I couldn't be more happy about this. I don't know if Jeff Magnum is equally happy, but hey, it's not our fault that he's become a recluse caveman right?

So, Neutral Milk Hotel's "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" and "On Avery Island" are getting the 180g vinyl treatment, and pre-orders are now up at Merge for the November 3 release date. Included are also download codes, but if you don't have these records on your ipod yet, then don't bother now. I'll be adding these LPs to my "Alltime Classic Albums" row, and so should you.

Ringworm - The Promise LP

This is as classic as it gets. Ringworm's "The Promise" is thé ultimate clevo-hardcore record and to date is still one of the hardest albums in my collection. Ringworm were one of the meanest and harshest hardcore bands out there, who shared the territory and mentality the other Clevo "Holy Terror" band Integrity. I don't know if kids nowadays are still into Ringworm at all, but they should be! The folks at A389 Records definitely respect their classics and acquired the rights to re-issue "The Promise", and they went all out with it.

You can now pre-order just the LP which comes on color vinyl and is limited to 700 copies, or you can get the Deluxe Preorder packages, which comes with:
- Gold/Red split colored vinyl (limited to 300 preorders only)
- 8 page booklet insert of old flyers/photos
- Ringworm 1991 Demo 7" (limited to 300 preorders only/will not be sold separately)
- Gluttons s/t 7" (Black vinyl only available with Ringworm preorder - Human Furnace/Dora's new band. Think Ringworm/Motorhead/Discharge)

Sounds good right? Right! Pre-order now from A389

EyeHateGod - Confederacy of Ruined Lives LP

New Orleans' EyeHateGod are seeing their last album "Confederacy of Ruined Lives" reissued on vinyl, and here's one ugly Belgian kid being siked about it! You see, EyeHateGod are one of the legendary bands in the southern doom / sludge metal NOLA scene amongst Crowbar, Soilent Green, Down and Outlaw Order - no coincidence that the 2 latter bands also feature members of EyeHateGod. Honestly, "Confederacy of Ruined Lives" isn't their best record, for that you need to get into "Dopesick", but these guys can't do much wrong in my book.

This LP re-issue is limited to 500 copies, of which 400 on black and 100 on white vinyl with tan/black splatters. All LPs are hand numbered and come encased in a deluxe triple gatefold! It's expensive, but worth it, so pre-order yours from I'm Better Than Everyone

Iggy Pop - Lust For Life & The Idiot LP Reissues

4 Men With Beards are re-releasing two absolute classics in the history of post-punk, let's be frank and just say rock music in general. Both Iggy Pop's "Lust For Life" and "The Idiot" albums, the first two solo-albums and commonly regarded as best albums as well, are getting the 180g vinyl treatment again.

After recovering from the substance abuse during and after The Stooges, Iggy Pop came across a fellow called David Bowie while he was in his Berlin-era, and Mr Bowie was so kind to co-write and co-produce these 2 albums, an influence you can stronly hear, especially on "The Idiot". So, what you get here is 2 icons on 2 remastered LP's. If I were me, which I am, I'm getting jiggy with it at Norman Records to find this in my mailbox late October.

The Feelies - Crazy Rhythms LP

It's hailing re-issues lately, but The Feelies debut album "Crazy Rhythms" is definitely one worth the effort.

Here's some info:
"Formed in Haledon NJ in 1976, The Feelies released 4 albums- including their critically acclaimed and influential debut "Crazy Rhythms", which was voted 49 in the top 100 albums of the 1980s by Rolling Stone magazine and chosen by Spin Magazine as 49 of the best alternative records of all time. The twin-guitar attack of songwriters and founders Glenn Mercer and Bill Million is the infectious sound of the group.

Paired with driving drums and percussion, it has left an indelible mark on the landscape of rock and roll. According to legend, the band played infrequently (usually on national holidays); however The Feelies performed several American and European tours in support of their records The Good Earth, Only Life, and Time For A Witness, which created a large cult following. The band also appeared on the The Late Show With David Letterman and in concerts with Lou Reed, The Patti Smith Group, REM, and Bob Dylan."

"Crazy Rhythms" comes on limited 180 gram LP and includes a download card. Pre-order it from Bar None Records before the September 22 release date.

Appleseed Cast - The End of the Ring Wars 2xLP

Appleseed Cast's debut album "The End of the Ring Wars" has finally been repressed on vinyl after being out of print, hard to find and extremely expensive for many years. Their first album sees the band playing more straight-forward emo compared to their later records such as the Low Level Owl volumes, but back in the 90s this album managed to put them on the map next to legendary acts like Sunny Day Real Estate or Mineral. Actually, the vocals remind a lot of SDRE, which is a good thing right!? Right!

I have no idea when this 2xLP re-issue came out, but Deep Elm report that they only have 29 copies left in stock, so hurry up and get your hands on this classic emo record over at Deep Elm Records

Boyd Rice - Hatesville! LP & The Way I Feel LP

Not one, but two Boyd Rice albums are being finally rereleased. Boyd Rice can be called "eccentric" or "controversial" at best, I'm personally most familiar with his collaborations with Death In June and Blood Axis. Either way, he was one of the godfathers of the industrial/noise scene, starting with this unaccesible kind of music way back in the 70's. Loyal fans and followers will also remark that he was once a priest in Anton LaVey's Church Of Satan, he regularly visited Charles Manson in prison, etc.

So there you have it. Soleilmoon are now gearing up to release the albums "The Way I Feel" and 'Hatesville!", the latter even for the first time ever on vinyl. "The Way I Feel" is limited to 300 copies on red vinyl and 500 picture discs, whereas "Hatesville!" comes on black vinyl and limited to 1000 copies with a picture disc version limited to 500. For those who care, pre-order now before the September 14 release from Soleilmoon

Wilco - LP Reissues

Wilco, you either love 'em or hate 'em, I for one am one of the lovers, but with too little vinyl of theirs in my collection. That's about to change though, as they are re-issueing some of their classic albums back on LP. Hooray! These reissues comes on 180g vinyl and in a gate-fold cover. As a bonus, each vinyl copy also includes a copy of the album on CD, as well as a download coupon. The albums are:
- Summerteeth
- AM
- Being There
Apparently these LP's are being released one per month. Summertime became available yesterday, for AM you have to wait an additional month, and "Being There" is expected late October. They're still expensive, but at least less expensive than before, so head over to The Wilco Store to get yours.

of Montreal - 5 LP Reissues

Of Montreal are sadly one of those bands who somehow managed to dissappoint me more & more with each new record they release. Fortunately enough, the people from Polyvinyl are making all their old records available again on LP. You can either buy their first 5 records all separately to comlete your personal collection, or you buy them as a bundle together with James Husband's debut album "A Parallax I" (featuring of Montreal members).

The seperate LP's which all come on heavy 180g vinyl by the way, are only $12 each, except the "Coquelicot Asleep In The Poppies: A Variety of Whimsical Verse", which is a 2xLP and costs $16. The package comes at $60, so basically you get one of the records for free if you do so. More info and pre-orders are up at Polyvinyl
