Six Organs of Admittance - Empty The Sun Book + LP

Books and music, movies and popcorn, whiskey and tits,... oh praise those perfect combinations. Up for order at Drag City is the "Empty The Sun" book, which comes with an LP of accompanying music written by Six Organs of Admittance. The novel is written by a certain Joseph Mattson and comes in a 12" by 12" vinyl format. Haven't heard the music yet, but it's supposed to sound a bit more like their early days. Haven't read the book yet, but it's supposed to good, and judging by this opening excerpt, it promises to be a good read: "Here I was, doing ninety on the Santa Monica Freeway with a quart of whiskey shoved into my crotch and my dead neighbor in the trunk. It had come time to leave Los Angeles..."

One-time pressing limited to 1000 copies, order the Book + LP for only $20 from Drag City

Acid Mothers Temple and The Melting Paraiso U.F.O.- The Early Acid Mothers Temple Recordings 1995-1997 2xLP

Stream of consciousness. Important Records -> Weird -> Psychedelic -> Acid Mothers Temple. Get it? Well, that's what my mind just did, and I'm happy it did so, because I stumbled upon a collection of early Acid Mothers Temple recordings that I don't own yet, and more surprisingly even though released in 2007 and limited to only 408 copies, it's still available. Well, I'm not stalling any longer!

"The Early Acid Mothers Temple Recordings 1995-1997" 2xLP on 150g vinyl comes in a gatefold sleeve, and compiles their earliest recordings previously available on extremely limited cassette issues on the Acid Mothers Temple label. Order it from LOOOP

US Christmas - Eat The Low Dogs 2xLP

Definitely one of the best and most intriguing bands on the current Neurot roster is US Christmas. I'm Better Than Everyone Records are now finally releasing their "Eat The Low Dogs" on 2xLP vinyl - dammit, why didn't I think of doing this myself?! Anyway, what's so special about US Christmas? Well, they're one of a kind. You see, they're definitely tuned down enough to D to feel at home at Neurot, but are way more psychedelic than other slugde or post metal acts on the label. Instead, US Christmas grab back to the 70s, reminiscing the greats such as Hawkwind, but still "post" enough to make it comfortable for me to name them an apocalyptic doom version of Dead Meadows or the US version of Ufomammut.

The "Eat The Low Dogs" 2xLP is limited to 500 copies, of which 400 on thick black vinyl and a limited eidtion of 100 copies on blue and maroon haze vinyl with a different layout, but that will cost you more. Head over to I'm Better Than Everyone Records for more info, and you might also still want to order that EyeHateGod album - even if the limited edition is sold out.

Spacemen 3 / Wooden Shjips - Big City / I Believe It 7"

Up for pre-order over at Cargo is the new split 7" by 2 legendary psychedelic bands from both sides of the pond: Spacemen 3 and Wooden Shjips. Apparently the UK side is a demo recording from their last single, while Wooden Shjips actually rework an older Spacemen 3 track. Anyone into awesome psychedlic krautrock should pick this 7" up from Cargo, I know I will.

Naam - Naam 2xLP

Tee Pee Records are now accepting pre-orders for the self-titled album by Naam. Naam recall late 60s/early 70s psychedelic rock like Blue Cheer, mixed with contemporary stoner. Their debut EP made me think of bands like like Grails, Black Mountain or Dead Meadow and even some Black Angels. So, this can't be bad, right? Right!

The "Naam" 2xLP is now up for pre-order, which will ship to us before the November 3rd release date. I'd buy this just for the artwork alone from Tee Pee

Der Blutharsch - Flying High! 2xLP

"Flying High!" is the newest album by Austria's okkult outfit Der Blutharsch. They've been controversial for as long as I've known them due to their flirtations with fascist and military symbolism, but to date I haven't found anything truly offensive or explicitly right-wing about them, so to me they're just a band with a good marketing gimmick. As for the music, these guys have grown much softer and rockier than in the earlier days, even cutting down on guitar riffs. "Flying High" is supposed to be a more psychedelic rock record, and I see names like Blue Cheer, Tangerine Dream and even Sunn0))) being thrown aroud, so this might yet still be a good listen. Either way, even if called psychedelic or rock, this is probably not an album you'll be giving your children for X-mas.

Order it now from Tesco and get the 2XLP which is limited to 750 copies, or if you don't care about sound quality, there's also a picdisc version available.

White Hills - Dead 12"

Thrill Jockey are now accepting pre-orders for the White Hills release entitled "Dead", featuring 3 brandnew tracks and one remix of "Oceans Of Sound" by Antronhy Oh of Julian Cope's Black Sheep Band, only available on vinyl, limited to 1000 copies and bound to sell out FAST. You say Space, I say Rock! You say Psych, I say Edelic! You say Hawk, I say Wind!

Heads up to Ben at Thrill Jockey for informing me about this EP, who had the following to say about "Dead": "...who doesn't want to hear well-crafted psychedelic swirls of feedback, bottom heavy bass riffs and soaring guitar solos that take listeners on journeys into the farthest reaches of the mind, right?"

Right! So, don't have any doubts about this one. The Tortoise remix 12" sold out in no time, and so will White Hills, so grab your mommy's credit card and order it from Thrill Jockey Oh yeah, this 12" comes in a black LP jacket with spot UV gloss varnish and a posted-on art card.

Eternal Tapestry - The Invisible Landscape LP

"The Invisible Landscape" is the newest album by Eternal Tapestry on the Not Not Fun label. This is as fuzzed out psychedelic krautrock as it gets and boy does this Portland outfit deliver! If bands like Wooden Shjips, Hawkwind or even Jackie-O-Motherfucker do it for you, so will Eternal Tapestry.

This new album which comes on randomly colored LPs (hues range from silt grey to swamp green and beyond) in pro-printed jackets with art by the band plus a photocopied insert is limited to 500 copies and available from Norman Records or Aquarius

Black Feelings - Black Feelings LP

Black Feelings are a new Canadian outfit, and I'm guessing their upcoming debut album is bound to make some waves. You see, they have some benefits working out just fine for them and which works perfect for every lazy reviewer out there who either waits for Pitchfork to give their albeit subjective two cents, or just quickly scans the press release / onesheet to see what to copy-paste.

Well, here you have it:
-1) Canadian. I don't know why, but it makes bands nicer.
-2) Band name with Black in it. Always works.
-3) Featuring Former Members of. A big plus sometimes, in the case of Black Feelings I must confess I've never heard of their previous band Les Angles Morts.
-4) Drop some influences, in this case This Heat, Gang of Four and the Pop Group although the tracks on the stream sound much more psychedelic than aforementioned bands.
-5) Hire a cool producer for extra references. Mark Lawson, who’s worked with Arcade Fire, Beirut, and Final Fantasy should do the trick.
-6) Remarkable artwork. I'm not the biggest fan of the cover, but hey, at least it was designed by ex-Aids Wolf guitarist Chris Taylor and it's sure to attract your attention when browsing through the new releases shelves.

I'm pretty sure once I get this album I'll be just like the next guy and will give it quite some rotation, it's just that I'm a bit suspicious of bands that seem to follow everything in the 'How To Become a Bestselling Billboard Indie Artist Whilst Having Credibility 101" handbook, probably written by one of the Pitchfork editors. Nothing wrong with that, and if Black Feelings are the real deal, we'll soon enough find out!

Get into the pre-order madness over at Alien8 Recordings and while you're there, take some time to browse through the extensive and impressive back catalog.
